Model No: 440C 9Cr18Mo

UT 440C 9Cr18Mo

Application:440C is used in a wide range of applications where these properties are required due to its combination of ultra-high hardness and good corrosion resistance:
1. High-end knives: This is the most classic application. High-quality
table knives, hunting knives, tactical folding knives, straight knives, hand
blades, razor blades, etc. The excellent blade retention (edge retention) of 440C makes it an ideal choice for a wide range of applications.
2. Bearings: especially precision bearings, ball bearings, bearing rings, used for the requirements of corrosion resistance, wear resistance and
certain toughness of the occasion (such as instruments and meters, aviation aerospace, food processing equipment in the non-direct contact
parts).
3. Valve parts: valve seats, valve spools, valve stems, and other parts that require abrasion and corrosion resistance.
4. Gauges and measuring parts: caliper jaws, gauge blocks, etc., need high hardness, wear resistance, dimensional stability, and not easy to rust parts.
5. Molds: for plastic molding, die-casting, and other wear-resistant higher requirements and the need for a certain degree of corrosion resistance of the mold inserts, ejector pins and so on.
6. Nozzles: high-pressure water jet cutting nozzles and other wear-resistant corrosion parts.
7. High-quality hand tools, such as high-end scissors, precision
silk cutter head.

440C is a high-carbon stainless steel with high hardness and wear resistance, and can be quenched to obtain very high hardness and temper resistance. In addition, 440C can exhibit superior physical and mechanical properties after appropriate heat treatment, including high hardness, high wear resistance, high strength, and good corrosion resistance. These properties make 440C a high-quality material that is widely used in a variety of industrial applications.

Core Feature:

1. High hardness and wear resistance:

- This is 440C's most outstanding advantage. Its high carbon

content (about 0.95%-1.20%) enables it to reach a hardness of HRC 58-62 after appropriate heat treatment.

-The extremely high hardness gives it excellent wear resistance and is very suitable for applications subject to friction and wear.

2. Good corrosion resistance:

- As a stainless steel, it contains high chromium (about 16%-18%), which has better corrosion resistance than ordinary carbon steel and tool steel in a general atmospheric environment and weak corrosive media.

Corrosion resistance is better than 440A and 440B, but usually lower than 304, 316 and other austenitic stainless steels (which sacrifice hardness for better corrosion resistance ).

The following are some examples of corrosion resistant steels. In wet environments or when exposed to salts, care must still be taken at to prevent rusting (not completely stainless).

3. High strength and some toughness:

- High strength after heat treatment.

In a stainless steel of such high hardness, 440C retains a relatively acceptable toughness (although much lower than low alloy steels or the much tougher stainless steels), which makes it less susceptible to shattering when subjected to impacts (relative to its hardness level).

4. Excellent polishability:

- can be polished to a very bright mirror finish,

which is one of the reasons it is often used in high-end knives, surgical instruments and bearings, both aesthetically pleasing and to reduce friction resistance.
